The Route: Beginning in Burnaby, BC, I'll cross the US Border into Washington State, cutting across Whidbey Island and on the ferry to Port Townsend. From there, Highway 101 snakes around the tip of the majestic Olympic Peninsula and onto the beautiful Oregon Coastline. The coast leads into the grand redwood forests of Northern California, past the famous Napa and Anderson Valleys and across the Golden Gate Bridge into the Bay Area. From Silicon Valley, it visits picturesque Monterey Peninsula before following the cliff-hugging portion of coast called "Big Sur" towards the idyllic Santa Barbara. In Southern California I'll pass by famous beaches in Malibu, Santa Monica, and Newport Beach on my way to San Diego and the other end of the US at the Mexican Border.
